Pace CCS Successfully Completes Initial Scope of Work on the Prestigious Western Kyushu CCS Project

Pace CCS is pleased to announce the successful completion of our initial scope of work on the prestigious Western Kyushu CCS Project, funded by the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security  (JOGMEC).

Beginning our engagement in 2024, we provided essential support to our client the consortium comprising West Japan Carbon Dioxide Storage Survey (WEST), ENEOS Corporation (ENEOS), Electric Power Development (J-Power), and ENEOS Xplora in capturing and storing 1.7 million tonnes of CO₂ annually from ENEOS oil refineries and J-Power thermal power plants, involving transfer of CO2 via both shipping and pipeline.

Pace have supported the consortium in developing a CO2 specification for the Kyushu CCS system addressing potential challenges related to CO2 handling. Additional work has also been performed on metering and monitoring as well as the custody transfer philosophy within the network.

Mark Ames, Business Development Director at Pace CCS, stated:

“We are proud to have played a role in this landmark project, supporting WEST and contributing to Japan’s carbon capture and storage initiatives. We look forward to continuing our work on the Western Kyushu CCS Project while further assisting the country in achieving its Net Zero goals.”
