Moomba Carbon Capture Projects Now Online

Pace CCS is thrilled to announce our successful support of Santos in delivering the prestigious Moomba Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project, now fully operational. This groundbreaking initiative ranks among the largest CCS projects in the world, marking a pivotal step toward reducing Australia’s emissions and tackling climate change on a global scale.

The Moomba CCS Project, developed by Santos Ltd., Australia’s largest domestic gas supplier, is capturing and permanently storing up to 1.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually from the Moomba Gas Plant. This captured CO2 is transported 50km east via a purpose-built, dense phase pipeline to the Strzelecki and Marabooka gas fields for safe, secure storage.

Pace CCS provided crucial technical expertise to the project, including flow assurance studies to optimise the design and operation of the CO2 transport and injection systems. Our engineers conducted extensive analysis and modelling to ensure the safe, efficient and reliable transportation of the CO2.

The Moomba CCS project is a testament to the power of innovation and collaboration in addressing climate change,” said Matthew Healey, Managing Director at Pace CCS. “We are proud to have played a role in this landmark project which demonstrates the viability of CCS technology at scale and paves the way for broader deployment in Australia and beyond.”

The successful launch of the Moomba CCS Project represents a significant milestone in Australia’s journey towards a low-carbon future, and showcases Australian ingenuity and leadership in deploying CCS technology to reduce emissions and contribute to global climate action.
