Pace CCS Director Matt Healey recently shared his insights on Taiwan’s growing leadership in carbon capture and storage (CCS) in a video for the 2025 4th SDG Asia Conference, which this year embraced the theme “Charge Towards Change”. In his talk, Matt highlighted several key points:
- Taiwan’s Net Zero 2050 goal and the unique challenges it faces compared to other industrialised nations
- The critical role CCS will play alongside renewable energy and efficiency measures to help Taiwan transition to a cleaner energy future
- How Taiwan’s geography and infrastructure provide natural advantages in CO₂ storage, shipping, and industrial clustering, supporting large-scale CCS deployment
- The pioneering Tieh-Chen Mountain CCS project, developed with CPC and CTCI, where Pace CCS has been closely involved. This world-first initiative serves as a reference point for CCS projects globally
- Pace CCS’s collaboration with Foxconn on corrosion management technology, helping make CCS more cost-efficient worldwide by applying local industrial expertise to global challenges
Matt concluded by emphasising how Taiwan is positioning itself not only as a regional hub for CCS but also as a global knowledge leader, with innovations that will shape CCS projects far beyond Asia.
