LONDON, UK, NOVEMBER 14th, 2023 — Pace CCS, in collaboration with Hafnium Labs, is proud to announce a ground-breaking initiative set to reshape the landscape of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) networks. With the generous support of EU, Innovation Fund Denmark and Innovate UK totalling €750,000 (bringing the project total to €1 million), we are embarking on an ambitious journey to create the world’s first reliable digital twin software for full chain CCS networks.

CCSTwin is an unprecedented software solution that leverages Pace CCS’s unrivalled expertise in digital twins for CCS and Hafnium Labs’ deep understanding of complex mixtures. This synergy is set to bring about a monumental shift in the way we approach CCS network design and operations.

Digital twins have been instrumental in optimising processes in the oil and gas industry. Still, their application to CCS networks has been hampered by a dearth of laboratory data, network interactions, and software maturity. This roadblock has led to increased costs, increased risks, and challenging operations.

The CCSTwin project is poised to change all of this. By offering a cutting-edge, validated software solution for CCS networks, CCSTwin enables engineers to make safer, faster, and more cost-efficient decisions across all stages of CCS network development and operation.

Key Benefits of CCSTwin:

  1. Integrated Design: By modelling a complete network throughout the CCS network lifecycle, a CCSTwin can ensure safer network designs and operations, reducing the risk of unwanted incidents and setbacks.
  2. Speed: Troubleshooting becomes faster and more efficient, facilitating smoother operations and minimising costly downtime.
  3. Optimisation: CCSTwin empowers the industry to optimise CCS networks, resulting in potential annual savings of €2 billion and reducing CO2 emissions by 150 million tons annually.

As we tackle the pressing challenge of climate change, CCSTwin aims to be the linchpin that empowers industry leaders to take swift and decisive action. We are committed to providing engineers with the tools they need to build and operate CCS networks that are not only environmentally responsible but also economically viable.

The collaboration between Hafnium Labs and Pace CCS began officially on 1 April 2023 and will run through to 30 April 2025.
